On October 14, 2010, the legendary mezzo-soprano Marilyn Horne joined writer and broadcaster Nancy Shear in a one-hour conversation which ranged through topics such as her friendships with other great singers, working with conductors, her feelings on retiring from performing, and her passion for her grandchildren. Ms. Horne graciously joined the assembled guests at a reception in her honor where she continued individual conversations with her admirers.
The event, held at Saint Peter's Church on the corner of 54th and Lexington in New York City, was the first of this year's series of "Conversations" fundraisers for the benefit of the programs of Music For All Seasons, particularly for programs bringing interactive music to children resident in shelters for victims of domestic violence. These shelter programs are partially underwritten by grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Pennsylvania Arts Council, from Johnson & Johnson, and from the Laurie Foundation. Music For All Seasons' popular and acclaimed "Conversations" series is an
innovative program that has a devoted and enthusiastic following. Led by
distinguished writer and broadcaster Nancy Shear, the "Conversations"
provide rare insights into the careers and lives of the guests and offer a
behind-the-scenes look into the music world. The interviews benefit Music
For All Seasons, an organization that brings the healing power of live
musical performances to residential institutions.
