Grant Addressing Issues of Domestic Violence
The National Endowment for the Arts has continued its support of
Music For All Seasons programs to bring interactive musical programs
to children and their mothers in shelters for victims of domestic
violence. These programs are taking place in shelters in New Jersey,
New York, Connecticut, Pennsylvania and California.
Our programs have a profound impact on this constituency. To quote
from a letter from one of the shelters being served: "On gathering
for one of our performances the children were observed to be somewhat
angry and highly territorial. Within a few minutes of the beginning
of the performance the children were observed to have calmed down
and to be attentive. By the end, children of all ages were working
together making music as a group and had developed a sense of community."
"Music For All Seasons is proud to play a role in helping to alleviate
the future problems of these young people. Our partnership with
the NEA is an strong affirmation of the importance of this work."
said Brian Dallow, President and Executive Director of MFAS.
All funds provided by the NEA need to be matched. Please go to
the Donations page and designate your
donation as a match for this critical program. |
